Welcome to Primary 1
What we are learning:
Maths and Numeracy
In Maths we will be learning to recognise, write, order and sequence numbers to 5.
We will be actively engaged in many different games and activities throughout the term to ensure your child will have a comprehensive and sound knowledge of these numbers.
We will also focus on matching, sorting, comparing and time. (daily routines, days of the week and months of the year)
Literacy
In Literacy, the children will learn different sounds/phonemes every week and then participate in follow up activities including daily writing, sensory activities and reading.
Children will be taught reading in class. Reading books will not be sent home.
We will be practising formations and use Talk for Writing and using story maps.
Learning Across the Curriculum
Our activities this term will be based on a theme of People who help us. The children will be involved in setting up various role play areas linked to this. They will learn about how things work, forces, electricity and science.
We will be making links to developing the young workforce and jobs in the future.
There will be a couple of visitors to class.
How you can help help at home
Practise sounds and sight words regularly.
Please return the folder every day so we can use them in class.
Folders with the plastic bag of sounds and sight words MUST be returned every Friday so we can add their new ones.
Homework
Your child will bring home a blue folder and a red jotter.
Sight words and sounds will come home weekly in the folder.
The red jotter is to practise formations and your child can draw pictures to go with the sound
